AMS is seeking a group counselor to facilitate and provide education once a week for 1-2 men's group for court ordered Domestic Violence offenders. This is a very part-time job and is contracted as independent. Professional trainings will or may be required. See more below.
Responsibilities:
- Facilitate or co-facilitate a group once a week (includes some administrative tasks)
- Collaborate with program director and facilitator, be open to give and receive feedback while training
- Progress notes required for court reports
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to guidelines of SB County Probation and ethical/legal guidelines of counseling.
- Shadow seasoned facilitators for three months to acquire 100 training hours in groups.
Requirements - Must haves:
- Must have a laptop to show videos in group. Screen monitors, wifi and cable are provided
- Must be computer savvy with cloud sharing (dropbox), use of basic Excel, email/texting, Word etc.
- Have own reliable transportation with proof of car insurance
- Live scan for SB county Probation
- 16 CEU's of DV per year at your own cost
- Professional Liability Insurance at your own cost
- Must be comfortable interacting with diversity of men who have experienced jail/prison.
- Experience in group facilitation
- Training / Knowledge of Domestic Violence dynamics and basic Anger Management skills. You will be asked to show certifications
***Healthy lifestyle, free of substance use, with no current or recent relationship with unresolved Domestic Abuse or any abuse (this job can be triggering). Must have a support system. We strongly suggest going to counseling, seek clinical supervision, have support group of some sort. This position is not to be used as self-therapy.
Required Qualifications:
You will be asked to show proof of degree completion, licenses, or other.
- BA or MA or PhD in Counseling Therapy, or or degree in progress (Psychology interns welcome, but no BBS/clinical hours provided). You will be asked to show proof of Graduation
- Substance Abuse/ Addiction certification counseling, or
- Licensed Marriage Family Therapy / Social Work (license is welcome but is optional since we do not provide therapy, nor psychotherapy)
- Experience leading or co-leading groups with ability to build empathic rapport with boundaries
- Strong communication skills, both verbal, written and electronic.
